The temple of Badrinath will close for winter on 17 November 2019. As per tradition the closing date for the Badrinath temple is decided by pundits on the auspicious day of Vijaydashmi, while the date for opening next year will be decided on Basant-Panchami day next year.

Badrinath temple has interesting stories, both in the regular literature as well as in local folklore. You can read more about the Badrinath temple here .

The other three temples in the Char-Dham circuit of Uttarakhand have already closed. Gangotri temple closed on 28 October while both the Kedarnath and Yamunotri temples closed on 29 October 2019. The date for the opening of Kedarnath temple will be decided on next Mahashivratri day while both the Gangotri and Yamunotri temples will open on the next Akshay Tirth day, whenever that may be.

Note for our guests: Guests planning to visit the Joshimath area may kindly note that once the Badrinath temple closes on 16 November 2019, the town basically empties of all activities. The hotels and restaurants close down. Residents of the last village Mana also start migrating to their warmer winter village near Gopeshwar town. Within a week of the temple closure the district administration bars all casual visitors from going to Badrinath. The police set up a barrier mid-way between Joshimath and Badrinath at a small hamlet called Hanumanchatti. Visitors may only go up to that point. You are advised to plan your itinerary accordingly.
